In reaction to news going round
about its constituent readiness to recall from the senate, Senator Dino Melaye,
the senator representing Kogi has said those calling for his recall are not actually
members of his constituency.
Senator Dino Melaye reportedly said
this on Sunday, June 4 when he featured on Politics Today on Channels
Television, in the midst of the political crisis rocking his political party, the
All Progressives Congress in Kogi state.
It was gathered that Senator Dino Melaye
who has champions calls for Gov Yahaya Bello’s resignation following the accusation
by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) that the governor
registered twice to vote, has faced a political turbulence of his own last week
with many youths protesting against him while vowing to recall him.
Meanwhile, there have been calls for
an investigation into an audio tape that is making round online that allegedly
capturing the Senator and a judge talking about bribe.
However, Senator Dino Melaye said that
he was not worried by the developments, maintaining that those clamoring for his
recall are not actually from his constituents.
In his word: “I am not scared, I am
not perturbed; they are sponsored by Smart Adeyemi and my governor. And I want
to tell you that those who even came to ask for the recall are not my
constituents and it is unfortunate that they did not even know what to do. INEC
told them to go back and do what they are supposed to do.”
It has been reported earlier that people
from his constituency have commence process of recalling Senator Melaye. Some
of his alleged sins were list thus; that he insulted the Sultan of Sokoto as
well as Bola Tinubu and even to the extent of threatening to impregnate
co-senator.
Senator Dino Melaye as well dismissed
the audio tape, maintaining that it is the handiwork of Senator Smart Adeyemi,
whom according to him, he defeated in the 2015 general election.
Dino Melaye said; “That tape is the
handiwork of a satanic collaborator between Smart Adeyemi, Sahara Reporters,
and others. And I want to assure you that they are wasting their time”.
He further said; “If they have any genuineness
in the lies they are projecting, they should approach the police, approach
relevant security agencies to prosecute me. I am not going to waste my time
over lies and fabrication.”
Meanwhile, Senator Adeyemi who also
featured on the programme said while he was not in a position to establish the
source of the audio tape, he believed the voice on the audio tape was that of
Senator Dino Melaye.
Senator Adeyemi said: “I worked in a
television house for 20years and I stand here to tell you I am a broadcast
journalist by training and I know when a film is manipulated using voiceover.
This (the audio) is the real voice of the two characters.”
